The Charlotte Unified Development Ordinance (UDO)

Welcome to the project website for Charlotte’s Unified Development Ordinance (UDO).

Charlotte’s UDO will simplify, consolidate and update the regulations that guide development into a single document. In addition, the draft UDO will align these standards with the vision of the Charlotte Future 2040 Comprehensive Plan and other adopted City policies. This effort will also make development standards easier to understand through the increased use of common language and graphics.

What is the Charlotte UDO

The UDO combines regulations from eight different development ordinances into a single overarching document. It is also a critically important tool in implementing the community vision outlined in the Charlotte Future 2040 Comprehensive Plan. The UDO will set a lot of very important standards for the feel and scale of our community.
